TUBAY, AGUSAN DEL NORTE—Since the start of the mining operation in the mountains of Barangay La Fraternidad, Tubay, Agusan del Norte, the water source which is located at the lower portion of these mountains is not anymore safe for drinking.

The water of Barangay La Fraternidad was once the source of potable water of the inhabitants.

But now, said water is not anymore safe for drinking. The residents of Barangay La Fraternidad now buy their drinking water in Cabadbaran, the nearest city.

According to one employee of the local government of the municipality of Tubay, the people of the community who drink at said water suffer diarrhea.

Pedro, not his real name, one of the residents of Barangay La Fraternidad, said that the water of La Fraternidad is not anymore safe for drinking.

Pedro added, "That water before was clear and cool; also that water before was delightful to drink because of its sweet taste. Since the start of the mining operation, the water is not anymore safe for drinking as it is now hazardous to the health of the people."

This writer from La Fraternidad also experienced difficulty because now we have to buy safe drinking water.

Because of this situation, the Barangay Health Center of La Fraternidad gives away medicines for diarrhea. Chlorine is added to the deep wells and water reservoir in La Fraternidad.
